Pratyahara: Moving Into Stillness Morning Immersion (January 2023)
January 9 - 13, 2023
Monday - Friday, 6:30 – 7:45am
Pratyahara is a practice which consciously redirects our senses inwards. Sensory stimulation is so prevalent in our lives that we often feel unsettled and restless when it is removed. According to the classical teachings of yoga, the outer mind (manas) is connected to our senses of perception. If the senses are ever turning outwards provoked by sensory stimuli, the mind will follow suit. If, however, we learn to turn the senses inward, the mind will do so as well. Pratyahara can be considered the threshold we must pass through in order to still the mind and experience the profound peace which resides within the depths of our being.
This annual Morning Immersion takes place during the time of the year when the days are at their shortest length in the northern hemisphere. There is a natural turning inwards that nature is providing us and that we can harmonize with to restore and nourish our oversaturated senses, mind, and nervous system.
The Morning Yoga Immersion provides practitioners with an opportunity to delve into yogic philosophy and practice with focused intention and daily commitment.
The morning sessions will include asana, pranayama and a short meditation. The format of the postures and breath work will be similar throughout the week, but will energetically attune with the season at hand. The daily repetition of the pattern of the postures and breath work fosters presence by alleviating the cognitive work of the mind. The practice itself becomes a moving meditation, prayer or offering. It acts as a healing balm for the often distracted, restless and anxious outer mind. As the mind settles into a groove of steady concentration and returns to its natural reflective nature, a deeper understanding of oneself and the teachings is unveiled.
