Sunday Morning Sessions

Yoga’s evolution through time has given the modern practitioner a unique opportunity to approach the path from many different modalities. Postural practice is arguably the most popular form of modern yoga in the west, however, many practitioners crave a deeper understanding of yoga’s vast philosophy. Although we cannot intellectualize our way to enlightenment, the theory provides us with a roadmap to follow. Our application of theory into our practice shifts our intellectual understanding into a deeper felt sense of embodied wisdom. Yoga strongly suggests that we should not follow the teachings blindly, instead we can test the validity of the teachings through our direct experience.

Grab a cup of tea, your notebook and get cozy for an hour of yoga philosophy.

Pratyahara — Turning Inwards

Sunday, December 12th
10:00 – 11:00AM PST

There are three categories of “foods” that we take in. The first are the foods that we consume which sustain our physical body. The second are the impressions that we take in which shape our mind. Lastly are the relationships which we cultivate and that influence our heart. The quality and quantity of these impressions influence the health and harmony of our bodies and our minds which ultimately will determine our ability to nurture our soul.

Pratyahara is the conscious practice of sensory discipline. We have become so accustomed to sensory stimuli that we often feel unsettled and restless when stimuli are removed. The mind is connected to our senses. If the senses are ever turning outwards, the mind will follow suit. If, however, we learn to turn the senses inward, the mind will do so as well. Pratyahara can be considered the threshold we must pass through in order to enter into the depths of our being.
